Women in media and in films and story telling have a very close relationship of exploitation. The way women are usually seen in media and horror mostly are seen as mostly either sex objects and victims to the often male antagonist. Its also these females that often overcome the obstacles to either escape or kill the man chasing her. And there are many reasons why its the females to escape over the males such as how the audience will connect to the characters as well as how you could market the movie to a wide mass market.
When it comes to the women in films we have two typical sorts, 'the bimbo' usually blonde ''gifted'' in some sense of the word and will be dressed slutty as well will be in a relationship with what we call the ''jock'' male character this will be a male and is often just the male version to 'the bimbo'. The other type we get is the 'Final girl' she is often seen as geeky and invisible to others and could be the main affection of the monster but will in the end live though out and will never die from what we see.
In the trailer ''Halloween'' we see the bimbo die within the trailer we see her very briefly but in that brief view we see her to be seductive trying to sleep with someone we can't see. This idea of the bimbo hitting on someone off screen backs up the point of how who she is sleeping with could be anyone. But what we see of the final girl we see a lot more of and what we see we feel the villan focusing on this is women.
Halloween is not the only example a perfect example is Jennifer's body in short what we see is that the bimbo is the bad guy and the final girl is her focus point. Its this sort of view that shows us how the feminism can be subverted to make an entirely new point of view for films and media. And it is also in this film we see how the male gaze can affect the film, what we see is that this film despite being populated with mostly women it is directed to men just because of stuff like what megan fox looks like.
In conclusion when we see women in films we see many varieties of how women are portrayed such as the bimbo a possible selling point to entice men on something they may never have dont or watched before to the final girl a character who is the hope of the audience as well as a way for the common women to connect to someone int he film. But when it comes to the male gaze we see that perspectives change and what might have been a balanced film when catering to an audience changes to focus on the male mostly.
